A super combo that allows the beauty of the Laras Valley's fauna,
hot springs, the Ollantaytambo fortress with the fabled Citdel of Machu Picchu.
Day 1 - Cuzco - Laras Hot Springs - Cuncani
Morning you will be met by private car and guide until reaching the small Colonial town of Lares
( 10,230 ft.) Here, we will spend some time enjoying the hot thermal springs and scenic surroundings.
After lunch, we will depart, accompanied by mules and or llamas to carry all our packs, we will begin
our hike up the river, and we will continue for about 3 hours until reaching the community of Cuncani
( 11,880 Ft.) where our first night of camp will be set. ( CB/L/D ) ( camp )
Day 2 - Quisuarani
After breakfast, our trek continues with views of the snow-capped peak, of Silver Cross (18,810 ft.)
We will continue our trek and pass a succession of beautiful turquoise lakes and then continue to the
first high pass at Uchuycasa ( 13,200 ft.) From this point, we can enjoy the some spectacular views
of the valley below where our trail will take us down to the village of Quishuarani ( 12,210 ft. ),
where our campsite for the night will be set. ( B/L/D ) ( camp )
Day 3 - Quisuarani - Canch Cancha
After breakfast, our day we will begin with a short walk to an impressive lake, where we can view
the Pausi Falls. Our trail leads up to the right, passing smaller waterfalls and following an original
Inca stone path. As we reach the Pachacuti pass (4,500 masl. Or 14,850 Ft.), we will have spectacular
views of the snow-covered peaks of Pitusiray ( 18,975 ft.) and Chicon. ( 18315 ft.) Below in the valley,
we can as well see the Suirococha Lake, located next to the village of Cancha Cancha ( 12,540 ft.),
where our last nights campsite will be set. ( B/L/D ) ( camp )
Day 4 - Cancha Cancha - Ollantaytambo
On this final day of the treking portion, we will continue descending from the village of
Cancha Cancha, passing several local homes and farms. As we will proceed into the warmer
temperatures of the valley, we will travel the mountain streams via a wide corridor wher a variety
of bird life live. The trail leads us to Sayhuapata ( 9,240 ft.), from our private vehicle will
await our transfer into the valley and Ollantaytambo the oldest continuously habituated town of the Inca. Here there are several structures of importance to the
Inca. At the top of the sixteen massive terraces are the ever impressive ruins of Ollantaytambo
Fortress where it is known the Inca fought some of their strongest battles. The huge precisely
carved stones were transported somehow by hundreds of men down one mountain range to the Ollantaytambo
location and fitted perfectly to support a strategic fortress that has bared the test of time.
There is as well the “silos” or grain mills that are directly adjacent to the fortress and were to
have maintained thousands of pounds of grain for the Inca and its people. Remain in Ollantaytambo and
transfer to the local hotel. ( B/L ) ( lodge )
Day 5 - Ollantaytambo - Machu Picchu - Cuzco
You will be assisted to the Ollantaytambo train station for the 8:00 a.m. Vista dome First Class
train. As it winds through the Andean Mountains, you will pass through several small villages
where the local Indian farmers manage their farms and reside just as they have for hundreds of
years. After a short but scenic ride (1½ hours) you arrive at the final stop Aguas Calientes.
Here, you will notice that the weather has changed to a tropical climate. You can now appreciate
the abundance of plants typical for this region and the Amazon basin. Here you will board the tourist
bus and proceed up a incredible winding road that leads to the fabled site of Machu Picchu.
Thousands of people from around the world frequent this magnificent ancient site to pay homage and
grasp the spectacular views of Machu Picchu’s 7,800 ft. plateau. Upon your arrival ( 10:15 a.m. )
your guide will explain the history and the myths that surround this archaeological wonder.
After your tour, you will have time for lunch at a nearby hotel or explore on your own before
being transferred by bus to the base of Machu Picchu and the town of Aguas Calientes where you
will board the Vistadome train at 3:00 p.m. for your return to Cuzco. After your arrival
into the Cuzco, ( 6:45 -7:00 p.m.) our staff will meet and transfer you to the preferred hotel. ( CB/L )
