The colonial city of Ayacucho, situated in the central highlands at an altitude of 9,000 ft. above sea level and is one of Peru’s most picturesque cities. It is famous for its churches and annual Easter procession. Other noted attractions include the 200 year old university, the baroque-style churches of Moorish influence, and their famous handicrafts. However Ayacucho is marked by Spanish architecture, their previous pre columbian cultures of the Wari and the Chanca regional state, are conciderred to be the oldest in the region and flourished here.

Day 1 - Ayacucho - City Tour
Morning flight from Lima to Ayacucho where you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Afternoon tour showing the best of the city, including the Plaza de Armas, Huamanga University, colonial churches and the Cathedral. Afterwards return to your hotel. Overnight at your hotel.

Day 2 - Wari Ruins - Pampa de Quinua
Morning excursion to the ruins of Wari, 20 km. (12 miles) north of Ayacucho, the ancient capital of the Wari Empire, whose influence extended over much of Peru around 700 AD, and to the Pampa de Quinua, site of the closing battle in the Spanish independence war. Afterwards return to the hotel. Overnight at the hotel. (B)

Day 3 - Ayacucho - Lima
Morning you will be met and transferred to the Ayacucho airport for the flight to Lima. (B)
